To set up your eSIM, all you need is the QR code that you will receive via email. Once you have the QR code, simply follow the instructions provided to complete the setup process. It should only take a few minutes to get your eSIM up and running
We recommend using an eSIM.
An eSIM, or electronic SIM, offers several benefits over traditional physical SIM cards:
- Easy to purchase with instant delivery to your email
- Simple to activate, just scan a QR code
- No contracts or subscriptions, just a one-time cost
- Often cheaper than a physical SIM card
- More environmentally friendly
- No risk of loss or damage to your eSIM
One of the major advantages of SIM cards is the ability to switch between phones without changing your plan or phone number. With the development of the eSIM, this process has been streamlined even further. The eSIM is a tiny chip embedded within your smartphone, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card slot. All you need to do is activate or delete the eSIM through your phone’s settings.
One potential drawback of eSIMs is their limited compatibility. As it is a relatively new technology, eSIMs are currently only supported by a select number of high-end devices. Check if your phone is compatible before making a purchase.
If your device is compatible with eSIMs, now is the time to take advantage of this convenient and cost-effective technology. eSIMs are gaining popularity and can help you stay connected while traveling abroad. Don’t miss out on the benefits of an eSIM!
We recommend that you purchase your eSIM before you leave and make sure you have the email with the QR code stored locally on your device. You need an Internet connection to visit our website and purchase the eSIM.
When you arrive in your destination country you can scan the QR code to activate the eSIM.
If you are already at your destination, you can use free public WIFI to make your purchase and receive the eSIM email.
This depends on where you are, but if 5G is available and your phone supports it, you can use it.
Again this depends on the location you are as not every locations supports 5G.
Setup your eSIM
The most convenient time to set up your eSIM is typically just before you embark on your travels. This way, you can complete the setup process from the comfort of your own home, rather than trying to do it while you are abroad.
It is important to keep in mind that once you activate the eSIM, the number of days remaining on the plan will begin to decrease. For this reason, it is recommended to activate the eSIM just before you leave on your trip, so that you can maximize the amount of time you have to use it.
Before you start
- Write down the activation code / activation pin from your email.

Only unlocked phones can use eSIM. Please make sure your phone is not locked before you purchase an eSIM card from our store.
An “unlocked phone” is a mobile phone that is not tied to a specific carrier or network provider. This means that it can connect to any carrier’s network by simply inserting a SIM card from that carrier. In contrast, a “locked phone” is tied to a specific carrier and can only connect to their network and use their SIM cards.
There are several ways to check if your phone is unlocked:
- Consider where you purchased the phone: If you bought the phone directly from the manufacturer’s store or a common website, it is likely to be unlocked. If you bought it from a telecom provider, it may be tied to that provider and not able to use an eSIM.
- Try using another SIM card: The easiest way to check if your phone is unlocked is to borrow a SIM card from a friend or family member and see if it works on your phone. If you can make calls or send text messages with the new SIM card, that means your phone is unlocked.
- Check the settings on your iPhone: If you have an iPhone with IOS 14 or later, you can check the carrier lock status by going to the Settings Menu, scrolling down and clicking “General”, going to the “About” section, and looking for “Carrier Lock” or “Network Provider Lock”. If you see “No SIM restrictions”, that means your iPhone is unlocked and can use an eSIM.
- Contact your provider: If you are unsure whether your phone is unlocked or not, the best thing to do is to contact your provider. They should be able to tell you whether your phone is unlocked or tied to their network, and can also help unlock your phone if it is network-restricted.
If your phone is unlocked, you may still need to make sure that it is compatible with eSIM. eSIM is only compatible with certain devices, so you will need to check if your device is among those that are compatible.
MY QR CODE DOESN’T WORK, WHAT DO I DO?
If you are having difficulty scanning your QR code, there could be a few potential causes. Here is a checklist of things to consider when trying to identify the problem:
Is your phone compatible with eSIM?
If you have already verified that your phone is compatible with eSIM, you can move on to the next step.
If you are unsure whether your phone is compatible with eSIM, you can check our regularly updated list of compatible devices. If your phone is on the list, you will also need to ensure that it is unlocked in order to use eSIM.
If you discover that your phone is not compatible with eSIM, don’t worry! Contact us and we will try to find a solution for you.
Are you scanning from your phone’s settings menu?
On some phones is not possible to scan the QR code for an eSIM using your phone’s camera. Instead, you will need to go to your phone’s settings menu and follow the appropriate process in order to activate the eSIM.
For more detailed instructions on how to set up an eSIM on your device, you can refer to a guide specifically designed for your phone. This guide should provide step-by-step instructions on how to properly activate the eSIM on your device.
- Set up an eSIM on Samsung
- Set up an eSIM on iPhone
- Set up an eSIM on Google Pixel
- Set up an eSIM on Huawei
- Set up an eSIM on Motorola
Do you have a WIFI connection?
In order to install an eSIM, you will need to be connected to WiFi. Without a WiFi connection, it will not be possible to scan the QR code and complete the activation process.
It is recommended to install the eSIM at home or in a location where you have a reliable WiFi connection. However, you should not activate the eSIM (i.e. set it as the option for mobile data) until you arrive at your destination. This will ensure that you have a smooth and uninterrupted experience while using the eSIM abroad.
Try to do a manual setup of the eSIM
If you are still having trouble scanning the QR code for your eSIM, it is possible that there may be an issue with your phone’s camera. In this case, you may need to troubleshoot the camera or try using a different device to scan the QR code.
If the QR code scanning method is not working for you, you can also try activating the eSIM using the reference number that is provided. This reference number can be used to manually activate the eSIM on your device.
When prompted to scan the QR code, click “Enter details manually” instead. You’ll then be invited to input the reference number (sometimes called the ICCD).
You can find the reference number in your email.
Have you already scanned the eSIM QR code?
An eSIM QR code can only be used for a single activation and cannot be scanned again after that. If you try to scan it multiple times, you may receive an error message stating “Data plan cannot be added”.
If you think you may have already successfully scanned and installed the eSIM, you can check by going to your SIM card manager or cellular settings to see if the eSIM is listed on your phone. If it is listed, it means that the eSIM has been successfully installed and activated. If it is not listed, you may need to try scanning the QR code again or contacting customer support for assistance.
Problems with your phone
- Make sure that your phone’s camera is working properly and that there is sufficient lighting in the area.
- Make sure that the QR code is not too close or too far away from the camera. It should be within a reasonable distance and in focus for the camera to be able to scan it properly.
- Check the QR code for any damage or distortions that may be preventing it from being scanned properly.
- Make sure that your phone’s software and app are up to date. This will ensure that the QR code scanning function is working properly.
- If you are using a QR code reader app, try using a different one to see if that resolves the issue.
- If you are still having trouble, try restarting your phone to see if that fixes the problem.
Still having trouble?

At our website, we offer 24/7 support to our customers and strive to respond as quickly as possible to inquiries. If you are having difficulty scanning your QR code, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly through our website for help.
If you want to continue using your eSIM, do not uninstall it. If you remove the eSIM, you will not be able to scan the QR code again and the eSIM cannot be recovered.
You should only uninstall the eSIM once you have completed your data plan. If your eSIM is not working, contact our customer support team before uninstalling it. They will assist you in identifying and resolving the issue.
Using your eSIM
Yes, you can use WhatsApp as you are used to. You can even deactivate your normal SIM card and still use WhatsApp. Just make sure you’ve configured your phone to use your eSIM card for data.
You can always use WhatsApp for messages, with any plan. We do reccomend the Unlimited plan if you are planning to make video calls.
Yes, your Vodafone eSIM card comes with a Dutch number. However, you need to add credits to your eSIM to make calls. This can be very expensive when you call home. We don’t advise you to do this at all.
If you need to make a call, it is always better to use What’s app, WeChat, Skype, SnapChat or any app which uses data to makes voice calls. You can even make video call’s when you’re on the unlimited plan.
The eSIM plan begins the moment you activate it on your phone.
To install the eSIM, you must scan a QR code or go through a manual process. This does not start the data plan. However, after scanning the QR code, the eSIM will be downloaded and you will have the option to activate the eSIM.
If you leave the eSIM de-activated (turned-off), the plan will not begin and you will not lose any days from the length of the plan. You can then turn it on when you’re ready.
If you turn the eSIM on, the number of days in the plan will start counting down.
Should I buy the eSIM when i’m ready to use it?
No, you can always purchase an eSIM card. Sometimes it’s even better to do it while you’re still home with a good internet connection. It’s up to you when you buy the eSIM. As long as you don’t install and activate it, the plan will stay valid.
When should I activate it?
Activate your eSIM when you arrive in Europe. Use a public Wifi to activate it and you’re good to go.
What happens if I activate the plan when I’m still at home?
This won’t work. You need to be on the European Vodafone network to activate your eSIM. But better is not to try it. It’s a waste of your plan to activate it at home because you cannot use it.
The iPhone 13, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max allow you to use two eSIMs at a time. No other phones have this feature.
Many phones do allow you to have multiple eSIMs installed, but deactivated, on the same device.
Yes, eSIM works using dual-SIM. That means you can continue using your regular SIM card while using the eSIM.
Please note: A dual sim phone cannot by default handle eSIM technology. If you’re not sure, please check our list with eSIM compatible phones.
